DR A.V. BAVDEKAR

I came to know Shri Bhalji Pendharkar through my wife, whose family is close to him for many years. About fifteen years ago, he developed glaucoma in his eyes and lost his vision. He came to Bombay for treatment.

His problem did not come within my speciality, but because of family associations I took him to a very famous and senior ophthalmologist who opined that nothing in this world would help him and that he should go back to Kolhapur. I later showed him to another senior ophthalmologist Dr Ursekar who happened to be my good friend. He opined that he was not sure about the result, but he would try his best to help Bhalji.

Baba had listened to both the opinions. While we were returning home. I asked Baba what was to be done. He said, "Your decision is my decision". So Baba was operated upon by Dr Ursekar. The operation was successful and Baba regained partial sight. Since then, our association has grown and matured over the years. Recently when he had intestinal obstruction he insisted that I take charge of his case. I had to request one of my surgical colleagues to come over and treat him in my Nursing Home. I have become a member of his family and am consulted in all matters of importance. He is a father figure to me.
